What does Alchemist Review do?

Here is our mission statement and what we do. We are a literary journal affiliated with the University of Illinois Springfield English Department, and we publish fiction, CNF, poetry, art, photography, etc. 

What is the time commitment and what positions does AR have?

  1. Managing Editor: Coordinate publication of the annual issue and select fiction, poetry, and artwork for the issue. Build creative writing community on campus through events surrounding the journal. Coordinate efforts to raise the profile of the magazine on campus and solicit submissions. 15 hours a week
  2. Fiction Editor: Select short stories for the annual issue. Assist editorial team in building creative writing community on campus through events surrounding the journal. 10 hours a week
  3. Poetry Editor: Select poems for the annual issue. Assist editorial team in building creative writing community on campus through events surrounding the journal. 10 hours a week
  4. Visual Art Editor: Select visual art for the annual issue. Work in conjunction with marketing editor as needed on flyers/other advertising and promotion materials. 6 hours a week
  5. Marketing Editor: Manage social media and website. Work in conjunction with visual art editor as needed on flyers/other advertising and promotion materials. 10 hours a week
  6. Reader Read and evaluate poetry and/or fiction submissions. Assist editorial team in building creative writing community on campus through events surrounding the journal. 6 hours a week

(Positions are open to all UIS undergraduates and graduate students! )

Can online students apply?

Yes! Online students can attend meetings and events via Skype, and all submissions and work are discussed over Google Drive.
